If it had been truly rhetorical, Max wouldn't have figured the question would have been asked so bluntly, easily. Max shrugged it off just as easily. "It depends on what way you mean. I've been through a lot of shit in life, and I tend to be laid back until I'm not. I like to enjoy life, because you only get the one and you never know what's going to happen tomorrow." It was true enough. Max had already been through life on the other side for over a month, and it wasn't pleasant. Limbo was a hateful, painful place. He internally begged for them to let him fully go-- but they kept a part of him alive in a horrid stasis pod after he'd died while they rebuilt his heart. He was somehow dead, and yet not fully.
When they brought him back, he'd had a weak heart for a over a year, until he'd had it fixed a second time by his brother, ex-girlfriend and her ex-boyfriend, who happened to now be his future brother-in-law... if matters were to be complicated. Small towns were like that. His life was a lot more dangerous and full of adventure than the average small town police officer of a town rampant in racial bias.
This was another matter completely. Max knew how to flirt, and he didn't have troubles with enjoying time with anyone on the side, friends or lovers. Although, with how basic Cole's moves were, Max wasn't sure what his own next move should be. He thought a second, but since Cole had so politely removed his shirt already. He couldn't help himself and shrugged. "Alright. It's got to be the stomach this time, bad boy. I don't know where the ladies would have gone, but I'm trying to be good here. You might want to lay back, unless you want me licking a trail all the way down. Not that I mind... You can always call red light if it gets too uncomfortable." He chuckled low and deep, a bit of the south poking through.
