"I wouldn't even know about that," Cole admitted. He wasn't a rebound kind of guy anyway, irrespective of what had happened a few months earlier. He could never take anything that involved people's emotions that flippantly. There was too much empathy in him for that, which was probably also the reason that success hadn't gone to his head. He had never experienced hardship himself but he knew a lot of people who had and he felt for them incredibly. "I'm not against doing something with you, but I don't want us to just brush it off in the morning like it wasn't anything."
He paused, folding his arms behind his head as he thought out loud, trying to reach a compromise that didn't completely spoil their fun but also didn't get anyone emotionally hurt. "How about you show me a few things," he suggested. "And we can go out to dinner tomorrow? It doesn't have to be anything serious, but I'd like to at least try to get to know you better in both ways." And it sounded like Max didn't mind his inexperience and that made him feel a lot better. He did have his pride and was afraid of embarrassing himself even though he couldn't stop his curiosity about what this would all feel like.
Even if they only went out once and decided it wasn't a good idea, at least then it would feel like a complete date, and not just screwing around.
