[Those words, "I love you" really can't be said enough. He knows it's something he could be better at. Expressing his feelings has always been something he's struggled with his entire life. When you're a kid who grew up like he did, you learn pretty quickly that it's not safe to be vulnerable and open but losing Max once already made him realize a lot of things and he didn't say it nearly enough to Max before he died; he didn't tell him how he felt or what Max meant to him. It's a mistake he'll never make again and he wants to take every opportunity to make sure he knows.

[In all honesty, Michael isn't sure he's ready to see Max and Liz together and it has nothing to do with not trusting Max. He trusts Max completely. He knows Max's feelings, his heart and soul intimately. A part of him will probably always be a little jealous and possessive and maybe even a little afraid of abandonment. He knows it's something he needs to work on.]
